An Israeli who spent 18 years in prison for revealing information about Israel's nuclear program has gone back to jail for violating the terms of his parole.
Mordechai Vanunu began serving a three-month sentence Sunday for refusing to carry out court-mandated community service.
Speaking outside a Jerusalem court Sunday, Vanunu criticized Israeli authorities for putting him back in prison. He also criticized Arab and international bodies he said should have protected him.
Israel released Vanunu from prison in 2004, after he served 18 years for discussing his work as a technician at Israel's Dimona nuclear plant with Britain's Sunday Times newspaper in 1986.
He has been banned from traveling abroad or having contact with foreigners. Based on Vanunu's interview with the British paper, experts concluded that Israel has about 200 nuclear warheads.
Israel has never acknowledged nor denied having nuclear weapons.
After the Sunday Times article, Israeli intelligence agents lured Vanunu from London to Rome, drugged him, and took him back to Israel stand trial.
