Former Israeli President Shimon Peres underwent a heart procedure Thursday after experiencing chest pains.

A spokesman said doctors found a narrowed artery in the 92-year-old's heart and widened it using a procedure called a cardiac catheterization.

The statement said Peres was feeling well, fully conscious and in stable condition.

Peres was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994 along with Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat following the signing of the Oslo peace accords.

He became president of Israel in 2007 and served until 2014. His political career has included multiple high-level jobs, including Cabinet posts and prime minister.
