Iranian media reports say authorities have released award-winning film director Jafar Panahi from prison on bail of about $200,000.
The news reports say the vocal supporter of Iran's opposition movement was freed Tuesday from Iran's Evin prison. However, the reports say an indictment against him could still be submitted to Tehran's revolutionary court.
Iranian authorities detained Panahi in March, along with his wife, daughter and 15 house guests. The others were later released.
Authorities jailed Panahi on charges of making an anti-regime film - a serious offense in the country. He had recently gone on a hunger strike, demanding to see his family.
Panahi is perhaps best known for his film, The Circle, which criticized the treatment of women under the Islamic regime. The film won an award at the 2000 Venice Film Festival.
Earlier this month, Panahi was honored at the Cannes Film Festival in France. Organizers left one of the chairs for the panel of judges empty to protest his detention.
