Iran's foreign minister says he is seeking to resolve the case of jailed Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian on humanitarian grounds, but added there are serious charges against the journalist.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif commented on the case at a news conference Saturday in Tehran. He provided few details, saying only Rezaian's case is part of a judiciary process.

Rezaian, who has been jailed since July 2014 on charges of espionage, was recently convicted by an Iranian revolutionary court. But Iranian authorities have not announced a sentence.

U.S. officials, press freedom groups and The Washington Post newspaper have protested the jailing and trial of Rezaian, who is a dual U.S.-Iranian citizen.
