Officials in eastern Afghanistan say insurgents have shot and killed eight civilians on their way to work at a U.S. military base.
Police in Logar province say the laborers were killed Thursday as they headed to work at Forward Operating Base Shank, a U.S. base located near the provincial capital Puli Alam.
The French news agency reports the workers were forced from their car and taken to a nearby village where each was shot in the head.
A provincial spokesman told AFP that the victims were "ordinary workers."
There was no immediate claim of responsibility.
The Taliban has recently killed dozens of people working for the Afghan government and international troops.
