The Indian government has ordered a probe into the allegations of corruption and mismanagement surrounding the Commonwealth Games.
The Comptroller and Auditor General national watchdog ordered the probe Friday, a day after the games' closing ceremony.
V. K. Shunglu, a former auditor-general, is the leader of the committee, which will report its findings to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh within three months.
The athletes village was in terrible condition just a week before the games started on October 3, with several teams forced into hotels or delaying their arrivals because of filthy and unfinished conditions.
Other problems included ticketing and transportation problems, security concerns, fears of a dengue fever outbreak and the collapse of a pedestrian bridge at the main stadium.
The quadrennial Commonwealth Games brought together almost 7,000 athletes and officials from 71 countries and territories from the former British commonwealth.
The 2014 games will be held in Glasgow, Scotland.
