India Lets Italian Murder Suspects Go Home to Vote

India's Supreme Court has ruled two Italian marines accused of murdering two Indian fishermen will be allowed to return home for four weeks to vote in Italy's upcoming national elections.

The marines were guarding an cargo ship off the coast of India when they fired on the fishermen whose boat came close to the vessel.

The case has caused diplomatic tensions between New Delhi and Rome.

Rome has argued the Indian courts have no jurisdiction over the marines because the incident happened in international waters.

The Italians were allowed to spend Christmas in Italy with their families. They have since returned to India.

Reuters news agency say the marines are being held at the Italian embassy in New Delhi and report to a police station once a week.
