Suspected tribal separatists have killed at least 33 people in northeast India.
Police allege the banned National Democratic Front of Bodoland, which the Indian government designates as a terrorist organization, carried out at least four attacks in the state of Assam on Tuesday.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi called the killings (in the Assam districts of Sonitpur and Kokrajhar) "an act of cowardice."
The NDFB seeks an independent homeland for the indigenous Bodo people. The group has a history of violence against non-Bodos in the area since it formed in 1998. It last struck in May, killing dozens of Muslims.
