Hurricane Igor is moving northwest over the Atlantic Ocean toward the island of Bermuda, where it is expected to cause heavy winds, rain and flooding beginning Saturday evening.
The U.S. National Hurricane Center says the center of the storm will pass near or over the British territory late Sunday or early Monday.
Now a Category 2 storm on the scale that measures hurricane strength, Igor is expected to remain a dangerous hurricane as it nears the island.
At last report, the storm's maximum sustained winds were near 175 kilometers per hour.
Farther east in the Atlantic, Tropical Storm Julia continues to weaken. The storm's maximum sustained winds were last recorded at nearly 85 kilometers per hour. Forecasters say Julia will weaken even more during the next two days.
Meanwhile, another storm, Karl, has dissipated over the high mountains of southern Mexico, after slamming into the country's Gulf Coast as a major hurricane. The storm triggered a landslide that killed two people in the state of Puebla.
The storm is expected to produce more rain, which the hurricane center says could cause more life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.
The system's wind speeds were last reported at nearly 35 kilometers per hour.
