A transitional ruling council is scheduled to be sworn in Thursday in Haiti.
Outgoing Prime Minister Ariel Henry said in a statement Wednesday the ceremony will take place at the prime minister’s office on the outskirts of Port-au-Prince.
The nine-member council will be tasked with naming a new prime minister and helping set up a new government ahead of planned elections.
Henry announced his resignation in March amid a wave of attacks by gangs in Haiti’s capital.
The outgoing prime minister had called for international assistance to help deal with gangs that control about 80% of Port-au-Prince.
