Guinean President Alpha Conde appeared Thursday to be on track to win the disputed presidential vote, after his main rival said he would pull out of the election.
With about 80 percent of the vote counted after Sunday's election in the West African state, Conde was set to win an absolute majority.
The final tally incorporating results from the last remaining polling stations was expected to be announced late Friday.
Conde's main opponent, Cellou Dalein Diallo, pulled out of the election Wednesday, declaring it a "farce." It was unclear whether his withdrawal would force a second round of voting.
On Thursday, Human Rights Watch urged political parties to act with restraint to avoid violence and said security forces should intervene to prevent trouble in a lawful and impartial manner.
Guinea has a history of political violence linked to ethnic tensions, and several people have been killed in election-related clashes.
