A Sudanese opposition group said Friday that police have raided the University of Khartoum and arrested hundreds of students holding an anti-government sit-in.
Sudan Change Now said in a statement that police stormed the dormitories in the capital before dawn on Friday.
The youth movement, which aims to topple the administration of Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir, said some of the students were "brutally beaten" and had their property destroyed by police.
The students had been holding a sit-in since January to protest alleged cases of harassment, intimidation and violence by police.
There was no immediate comment from Sudanese authorities.
In December, Sudanese security forces violently dispersed similar student demonstrations at Khartoum University, arresting scores of people and causing several injuries.
After that incident, Human Rights Watch criticized Sudanese police, saying they were using excessive force to stifle dissent.
