Greek lawmakers have voted in favor of pressing criminal charges against a former finance minister for his handling of a list of suspected tax evaders.
A majority of lawmakers voted early Tuesday to lift George Papaconstantinou's immunity from prosecution over the fate of a list of about 2,000 names provided by French authorities in 2010 as Greece's economy was struck by a major financial crisis.
A judicial panel will now launch a probe into the case.
Many Greeks are angry the government failed to investigate the data for potential tax evasion. The names of three of Papaconstantinou's relatives were allegedly removed from the list.
Papaconstantinou has denied any wrongdoing.
