The indie-pop band Fun. and rapper-singer Frank Ocean dominated the major categories during Thursday's announcement of the 2013 Grammy Award nominations.
Fun. was nominated for record of the year and song of the year for producing and writing the single "We Are Young," which they performed with singer Janelle Monae. The band was also nominated for album of the year for their collection Some Nights, as well as the the prestigious best new artist award.
Ocean also received Grammy nominations for best new artist, as well as record of the year and album of the year for his debut collection Channel Orange. Ocean revealed he was involved in a homosexual relationship shortly before the album's release, a rare admission for a male artist in the hip hop industry.
Fun. and Ocean were among several artists to receive a total of six Grammy nominations; the others include British folk-rock group Mumford and Sons, veteran rappers Jay-Z and Kanye West, and Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, who was nominated both for his work with his rock duo The Black Keys and producing outside albums.
The nominees for the music industry's most prestigious awards were announced Wednesday during a nationally televised ceremony staged in Nashville, Tennessee, the home of the country music recording industry.
The 55th annual Grammy Awards are scheduled to be held in Los Angeles in February.
