Authorities say severe flooding in central Vietnam has killed at least 30 people and left many more missing, including at least 13 whose bus was swept away by a torrent.
Police say 17 people were rescued Monday after managing to escape from the bus, which was washed away while traveling through the Central Highlands.
The flooding has blocked key roads and rail links, isolating more than 100,000 houses. Rescue workers are using boats to bring aid to the victims.
The downpour has eased in the past few days, but there are fears that Typhoon Megi could bring more rain this week. Megi hit the northern Philippines on Monday.
Flood waters also have ravaged Thailand and southern China, where rains have forced more than 100,000 people to evacuate their homes.
Disaster officials in Vietnam say thousands have been mobilized to assist flood victims, but the rescuers lack equipment.
Vietnam regularly suffers from tropical storms and flooding at this time of year. Floods killed more than 60 people earlier this month in central Vietnam.
