Burkina Faso's former president Blaise Compaore has gone to Morocco from Ivory Coast, where he initially sought refuge after being ousted three weeks ago.
Morocco's state news agency reports the former leader arrived in the country late Thursday with five other people. It said he will remain in the country for a "fixed-term" stay.
Compaore seized power in Burkina Faso in a 1987 coup and ruled until last month. He resigned in the face of violent protests against his effort to change the constitution so he could seek re-election.
On Tuesday in Burkina Faso, longtime diplomat Michel Kafando was sworn in as interim president. Lieutenant Colonel Isaac Yacouba Zida was named interim prime minister on Wednesday.
The two are tasked with leading a transition that will culminate with elections next year.
