The two sons of ousted longtime Egyptian leader Hosni Mubarak have been released from a Cairo prison.

Officials said Alaa and Gamal Mubarak left Torah Prison early Monday, nearly four years after being arrested in the months following the uprising that pushed their father from power.

A judge ordered the sons' release on bail last week.

All three men are still facing retrial in an embezzlement case after winning an appeal of their convictions earlier this month. Hosni Mubarak had been sentenced to three years in prison, while his sons were given four years each in that case.

Hosni Mubarak is still being held in a military hospital, but has no remaining convictions against him.

The release Monday comes a day after protesters in Egypt marked the anniversary of the 2011 uprising. Clashes Sunday between demonstrators and security forces in Cairo and elsewhere left at least 18 people dead.
