Women make up about half of the world’s population, but studies show that less than one percent of global corporate expenditures go to women-owned businesses. The World Economic Forum notes that the African continent is working to close its gender gap, but still has a long way to go, despite its wealth of women entrepreneurs. But increasingly, large corporate businesses are seeing value in women entrepreneurs, and say that uplifting women-owned businesses has wider social effects.
