A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 7.1 hit the far northwestern U.S. state of Alaska early Sunday.
The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter was 260 kilometers southwest of Anchorage, Alaska’s biggest city.
Residents in Anchorage said the shaking woke them up, but there were no immediate reports of major damage in the state.
The National Weather service said no tsunami was expected from the earthquake, which the USGS says struck at a depth of 127 kilometers.
