A Pakistani man is seeking the arrest of the person who was driving a U.S. consular vehicle that ran over his brother, as it rushed to help a U.S. State Department employee who has been detained for shooting two other men.
Aijazur Rehman, whose brother Abadur was killed in the incident last month in Lahore is seeking the arrest of the driver who has not been identified. He brought his case to the High Court in Lahore Friday.
The driver struck Abadur Rehman while coming to aid Raymond Davis, an employee of the U.S. consulate in Lahore. He is accused of shooting two men who he says were trying to rob him. Pakistani police have rejected Davis' version of events and accuse the American of committing murder.
The United States says Davis enjoys diplomatic status, but the Lahore High Court has yet to decide whether it will certify his claim to diplomatic immunity in the case. A decision is expected next month.
The case has raised tensions between Washington and Islamabad and has fueled anti-American sentiment across Pakistan.
