First lady Michelle Obama gave a forceful, impassioned defense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation's children. Obama was among the power lineup of speakers taking the stage in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention. The convention’s first day was embroiled in controversy over leaked emails that showed how party leaders sought to ease Clinton's path to the nomination by mocking her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

AFL-CIO head Richard Trumka says Trump isn't solution to America's problems he is the problem. Trumka is the first to mention Hillary Clinton's stance against the Trans-Pacific Partnership, which draws cheers from the crowd.

TV pans to a group of delegates holding "NO TPP" signs.

Lily Eskelsen Garcia, president of National Education Association, says her story, the child of immigrants, touts Hillary Clinton's "education not deportation' stance.

Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, is the first to mention the controversial Trump University. "That's Trump in a nutshell. Manipulating people's fears to enrich himself."
