First lady Michelle Obama gave a forceful, impassioned defense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation's children. Obama was among the power lineup of speakers taking the stage in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention. The convention’s first day was embroiled in controversy over leaked emails that showed how party leaders sought to ease Clinton's path to the nomination by mocking her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

As part of the video, California Congressman Tony Cardenas says he ran for Congress because he thinks Congress should look like America and he represents the 52 million Latinos in the country. Says the nightmare this election would be to see low voter turnout.

Linda Sanchez says her parents were immigrants to the U.S., worked to become successful and sent all seven children in her family to college. Her mention of Trump's comment that Mexico sends "rapists" to U.S. draws boos. Both Linda Sanchez and her sister, Loretta, are members of the U.S. House of Representatives.
