First lady Michelle Obama gave a forceful, impassioned defense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation's children. Obama was among the power lineup of speakers taking the stage in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention. The convention’s first day was embroiled in controversy over leaked emails that showed how party leaders sought to ease Clinton's path to the nomination by mocking her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Lowey calls out New York leaders for New York. Among them Adriano Espaillat, a New York state senator, was could become the first Dominican-American elected to Congress this fall. Espaillat says at one point he was an undocumented immigrant.

The delegates are told to go to their seats as they are about to take their 2016 DNC class photo. It will be taken with a 100-year-old camera.

Former Contender Bernie Sanders is scheduled to speak later this evening at the convention. Earlier he was booed by his supporters when he told them they must vote for Hillary Clinton.
