First lady Michelle Obama gave a forceful, impassioned defense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation's children. Obama was among the power lineup of speakers taking the stage in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention. The convention’s first day was embroiled in controversy over leaked emails that showed how party leaders sought to ease Clinton's path to the nomination by mocking her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Jesse Lipson, the founder of ShareFile, says he doesn't see a world like Donald Trump talked about at last week's Republican National Convention. As a businessman, Lipson said bigoted comments drive business away, such as recent anti-LGBT laws in North Carolina and Indiana.

Lipson's comments are an intro to an LGBT video.

From the convention floor there are "Love trumps hate" signs everywhere. Crowd subdued so far through immigration section of speeches.

Jason and Jarron Collins, twins and former professional basketball players, took on comments made by Donald Trump.

Jarron Collins said: how do you tell your kids not to be a bully when your president is one.

He then introduced his brother, Jason, who made history as the first openly gay active player in one of the four major U.S. sports leagues.
