First lady Michelle Obama gave a forceful, impassioned defense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation's children. Obama was among the power lineup of speakers taking the stage in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention. The convention’s first day was embroiled in controversy over leaked emails that showed how party leaders sought to ease Clinton's path to the nomination by mocking her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Video shown to the delegates stresses electing Democrats up and down the ticket, such as state governors and legislatures. Video says redistricting has been approved in Republican states benefiting their party more.

Malloy says he knows something about bullies. Says if Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump's words are bad, his actions are worst. Malloy cites actions by Trump's Republican vice presidential nominee Mike Pence, the Indiana governor. Malloy says Pence turned his back on refugee children. Says he knows because the refugees are now happily residing in Connecticut -- Malloy's state.
