First lady Michelle Obama gave a forceful, impassioned defense of Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, casting her as the only candidate who can be trusted as a role model for the nation's children. Obama was among the power lineup of speakers taking the stage in Philadelphia at the Democratic National Convention. The convention’s first day was embroiled in controversy over leaked emails that showed how party leaders sought to ease Clinton's path to the nomination by mocking her challenger, Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders.

Barbara Fudge gets a long and sustained cheer from delegates for approval of the party platform.

Jealous is speaking to the party platform. He is the former head of the NAACP and he reminds delegates that Democrats are the party of FDR, JFK, MLK, Shirley Chisholm, Barbaba Mikulski, Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. He says the party broke the color barrier in the Senate and in the White House.

Meanwhile outside the convention on the streets of Philadelphia, music is playing and souvenirs are being sold.
