LIVE BLOG: Clinton Becomes First Woman Nominated for President

update

The Democratic Party made it official Tuesday, naming Hillary Clinton their candidate for president in 2016 – and making history by selecting the first woman to represent a major U.S. political party. Following the roll call vote, Tuesday's speakers included former President Bill Clinton as well as the Mothers of the Movement -- the mothers of Trayvon Martin, Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Sandra Bland and other young black victims of violence.

Streep introduces "the video." It's a look back at change-makers in American history.

Actress Meryl Streep starts her speech with a scream. She tells the story of the first woman fighter (masqueraded as a man in George Washington's army).

Streep then says Hillary Clinton has taken a lot of fire in the past 40 years. And lists all the other women firsts. "What does it take to be the first female anything? It takes grit and it takes grace."

A very rousing, celebrity-heavy video of "Fight Song."
