Cannes film festival organizers have kicked out Danish filmmaker Lars von Trier for pro-Hitler comments.
Festival organizers said Thursday they were disturbed by von Trier's statements, which they described as unacceptable and intolerable.
Von Trier on Wednesday had said he understood and sympathized with Adolf Hitler. He later said he had been joking and apologized.
His film, Melancholia, did not get pulled out of the festival.
The Cannes film festival is a week-long event that attracts celebrities from around the world to the French Riviera as directors compete for the Palme d'Or prize for their latest film works.
