Christians from around the world gathered in the holy city of Jerusalem to celebrate Easter, as nearby violence in the West Bank killed an Israeli and wounded four others.
Orthodox Christians and Roman Catholics held ceremonies at the Church of the Holy Sepulcher, the place where some Christians believe Jesus was buried.
Protestant Christians also held Easter celebrations outside the walls of the Old City at the Garden Tomb, where some Christians believe Jesus was crucified and buried.
Meanwhile, the Israeli military has confirmed that a Palestinian policeman shot and killed an Israeli man and wounded four others in the northern West Bank city of Nablus.
Palestinian officials notified the Israelis of the incident, which occurred near a holy site known as Joseph's Tomb.
Jewish worshippers are supposed to get permission from both Palestinian and Israeli authorities before visiting the site in Nablus, and are usually escorted to the area by the Israeli military. Officials said the worshippers did not appear to have followed that procedure.
Israeli and Palestinian officials will meet later Sunday to discuss the deadly shooting.
Hundreds of Jewish settlers live among the Palestinians in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
