Chinese officials say a deputy chairman of China's top planning agency is under investigation.
In a one-sentence statement carried by state media Sunday, the Communist Party's disciplinary agency said that Liu Tienan, deputy head of the Cabinets' National Development and Reform Commission is being investigated for suspected "severe discipline violations," a phrase usually reserved for corruption cases. The report gave no further details.
The investigation into Liu comes as China's new leadership under President Xi Jinping has pledged to root out widespread corruption.
China's official Xinhua news agency reported last month that prosecutors handled 3,657 corruption cases during the first quarter of 2013.
