Rescuers remove a dead body from the scene of a car bomb attack close to the presidential palace in the capital Mogadishu, Somalia, Oct. 15, 2014.

Two car bombs in Somalia's capital have killed at least seven people, including a national intelligence officer.

Militant group al-Shabab claimed responsibility for both blasts Wednesday.

The first explosion killed two people and was caused by a bomb attached to the car of the intelligence officer.

The second blast was in Mogadishu's Hamar Weyne district, killing five people and wounding eight.

The commissioner of the district, Abdulkadir Mohamed Abdulkadir, tells VOA that the car carrying the explosives was parked outside a restaurant.

Al-Shabab has steadily lost territory to African Union forces but continues to launch gun and bomb attacks in Mogadishu. The group has killed several Somali lawmakers this year.
