West African negotiators announced a plan Sunday to end the crisis in Burkina Faso, where a military coup overthrew the transitional civilian government last week.
The proposal would restore civilian authority, but offer amnesty to the coup leaders.
Presidential and parliamentary elections set for October 11 would be held sometime before November 22. Candidates loyal to former President Blaise Compaore, who were excluded from the October polls, would now be allowed to run.
The plan will be submitted to an Africa Union summit Tuesday for approval.
General Gilbert Diendere of the presidential guard led the coup last week. He was angered that Compaore supporters were to have been kept out of the new elections.
Guard members briefly held interim President Michel Kafando, his prime minister, and several other ministers hostage.
Protests against the coup turned violent, killing at least 10 and injuring more than 100.
Compaore ruled Burkina Faso for 27 years before he was toppled by a popular uprising last year when he tried to change the constitution to extend his presidency.
