Officials in Pakistan's southwestern Baluchistan province say a powerful bomb ripped through a passenger bus Monday evening, killing at least 11 people and wounding many others.
Police say that more than 40 people were on board the bus on the outskirts of Quetta, the provincial capital.
No one has yet claimed responsibility for the violence. Rescue workers fear the death toll is likely to increase.
A low-level separatist insurgency has been plaguing Baluchistan for years and groups involved in it usually claim responsibility for such acts of violence.
Counter-insurgency operations in violence-hit districts of the natural resource-rich Pakistani province have led to a significant decline in separatist violence.
Baluchistan borders Afghanistan and Iran. The province is also allegedly hosting militants linked to the Afghan Taliban and al-Qaida while sectarian groups also operate there.
