U.S. Vice President Joe Biden says there is no reason why an American working 40 hours a week has to live in poverty.
Biden said Saturday raising the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour would be enough to bring a family of four out of poverty. The vice president delivered the White House weekly address for President Obama who is traveling.
The vice president said a minimum wage hike would generate an additional $19 billion in income for people "who need it the most" and would help women who earn less on average than their male counterparts.
In the Republican address, Representative Jackie Walorski of Indiana urged President Obama to support the Veterans Administration Management Accountability Act. She said the president's support would be a "big step in the right direction" for helping veterans.
