A spokesman for Burmese pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi says she is likely to run in a by-election in coming months, following a change to party registration laws.
Nyan Win, of the National League for Democracy, told the French news agency the NLD is likely to register and the Nobel Peace laureate is likely to participate in the coming by-election. It is not yet clear when the election will be held. There are more than 40 seats available in parliament's two chambers.
The NLD was de-listed as a party last year after it boycotted the general election to protest rules that would have forced it to expel imprisoned members, including Aung San Suu Kyi, who was under house arrest at the time.
