Officials in Brazil say at least five inmates have been killed in a prison riot in the northeast, including some who were decapitated.
The uprising began late Monday at a jail west of the city of Sao Luis, capital of Brazil's Maranhao state.
News reports say inmates rioted to protest overcrowding at the prison, which holds some 100 inmates, but was built for about 30. Overcrowding is a common problem at prisons in Latin America.
