Bomb Blasts in Central Baghdad Leave 8 Dead

Three bomb blast ripped through a central market in Baghdad on Sunday, killing at least eight people. Another 20 were reported wounded.

The blasts occurred mid-day in the Iraqi capital's Shorja market as shoppers were preparing for the Muslim Eid al-Adha festival.

Though insurgent violence across Iraq has dropped significantly this year, U.S. and Iraqi officials have expressed concern that as American troops continue their withdrawal militants linked to al-Qaida will step up their attacks.

All of the remaining 33,000 troops stationed in Iraq are due out by the end of the year.

Deadly attacks take place daily in Iraq. Last month saw an increase in insurgent violence with more than 250 people reportedly killed.
