51 Dead in China Travel Accidents

Chinese state media say at least 51 people died in two travel accidents Sunday.

The official Xinhua news agency says at least 32 people were killed when a truck and a bus collided on an expressway in northeastern Liaoning province. The accident occurred on a section of an expressway that was undergoing maintenance in the city of Fuxin.

In a separate incident, Xinhua said at least 19 people were killed early Sunday when a passenger train was hit by a landslide.

Officials say at least 71 others were injured when the train, bound for the tourist destination of Guilin, derailed in eastern Jiangxi province.

Firefighters pulled 53 survivors from mangled and overturned train carriages. More than 280 people were evacuated.

Jiangxi province has been hit by heavy rains in recent days, flooding low-lying towns.
