Former Argentine president Cristina Fernandez was indicted Friday, charged with defrauding the government through her handling of the country's currency futures market while she was in office.
Federal Judge Claudio Bonadio also charged former economy minister Axel Kicillof and former Central Bank president Alejandro Vanoli in connection with the scheme to keep the value of the peso inflated.
The case caused Argentina to lose billions of dollars, according to court papers.
Reuters news agency reports no arrest warrants were issued.
Fernandez is beloved by many Argentines for the generous welfare programs she offered while in office.
