A U.S. citizen arrested in Pakistan for visa violations has been ordered detained for 14 more days, while Pakistani authorities investigate the case.
Aaron Mark DeHaven is accused of overstaying his visa. His detention was ordered by a court in Peshawar Saturday - a day after his arrest.
Authorities say DeHaven had been working for a security and logistics company called Catalyst that is staffed by former U.S. military personnel and has contracts with the U.S. government.
The U.S. Embassy said it was aware of DeHaven's arrest and was trying to arrange consular access to him.
Tensions are already running high between the United States and Pakistan following the arrest last month of another U.S. contractor, Raymond Davis, charged for shooting dead two Pakistani men in Lahore. Reports say Davis was working for the CIA.
Pakistan has charged Raymond Davis with double murder, while the U.S. claims he was acting in self-defense.
On Thursday, Davis refused to sign a charge sheet at his hearing in Lahore, insisting he has diplomatic immunity. The court has adjourned the case until March 3.
