Weather experts are warning that as much as 60 centimeters of snow could fall on Chicago in the latest major snowstorm to hit the United States.
Forecasters say the storm now heading towards the country's midsection will bring ice and snow to a large part of the nation. It is expected to hit the states of Oklahoma, Missouri and Illinois Monday and move to the northeastern U.S. in the next few days.
Freezing rain and fog is expected to cause many flight cancelations. Some airlines are offering travel waivers or the opportunity to change flight itineraries.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency said Monday that it has emergency supplies of water, food, bedding and generators ready in areas expected to be hit.
FEMA said it has deployed personnel to the states of Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, and Indiana, at the request of those states.
