A prominent Afghan journalist and author has been hospitalized after someone sprayed acid in his face.
Razaq Mamoon says the attack happened Tuesday as he was walking outside his home in Kabul. The attack left Mamoon with extensive burns on his hands and face.
Mamoon is the director of the Bost-i-Bastan news agency and is well known in Afghanistan for exposing political corruption, first on a television show on Tolo TV and more recently in Afghan newspapers. He recently published a book which said Iran had played a role in the 2001 assassination of Afghan resistance leader Ahmad Shah Masood.
President Hamid Karzai has issued a statement condemning the attack.
A senior Afghan police official told VOA (Pashto) that police have evidence which might lead to an arrest in the case.
This is the sixth attack on an Afghan journalist since March of last year.
