The World Bank says it is committing 25 million dollars to help rebuild Liberia.
The announcement was made Monday by World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz, who appeared with Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf at World Bank headquarters.
Wolfowitz told Mrs. Sirleaf the money would go to a roadbuilding fund.
He also said he was seeking debt forgiveness for Liberia and was encouraging his counterparts at the International Monetary Fund and the African Development Bank to do the same.
Mrs. Sirleaf was once an economist at the World Bank. During her campaign to become Africa's first elected female head of state, she promised to fight corruption and cooperate with foreign donors.
Mrs. Sirleaf is visiting the United States and meets later today with President Bush at the White House.
