Florent Serra of France needed three sets to eliminate Robredo, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3 on Wednesday, while Belgium's Xavier Malisse topped Ancic, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 in their second round match.
Serra will play seventh-seeded Jarkko Nieminen in the third round, after the Finnish player beat Germany's Florian Mayer, 7-6, 7-5.
Top-seeded Lleyton Hewitt of Australia will play his second round match Thursday against Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber.
