France's lower house of parliament has approved a new anti-terrorism bill that includes increasing the use of video surveillance.
The National Assembly voted 373 to 27 in favor of the legislation. The bill now requires approval by the Senate, which begins debate in January.
The draft law extends the detention period without charges for terrorism suspects from four days to six days. It also provides for an increase of video surveillance in French subways, airports and train stations, and requires Internet cafes to keep more detailed information about their clients.
Critics of the bill say it will erode basic civil liberties.
