European Union veterinary experts have extended for two months a ban on imports of captive live birds from outside the bloc in response to the threat of bird flu.
The European Union imposed a ban on such imports last month after an imported parrot, believed to have contracted avian flu, died in quarantine in Britain. The ban was to expire at the end of this month, but has now been extended to the end of January.
European Union officials have taken various measures to deal with the spread of the bird flu which originated in Asia and now has reached Europe.
