American Plane Found Crashed in Afghan Mountains, 6 Killed

update

The U.S. military says a search team has found the wreckage of an American plane that crashed in central Afghanistan, killing all six people on board.

A military spokesman says the wreckage of the CASA-212 aircraft, which was carrying three U.S. soldiers and three American civilians, was found in Bamiyan province Tuesday. He says there is no indication the plane was brought down by hostile fire, and that an investigation is under way to determine the cause of the crash.

The plane under a U.S. military contract went missing Saturday, shortly after leaving Bagram air base outside Kabul for an undisclosed destination.

Officials say the small aircraft designed for short takeoffs and landings was used to transport soldiers and equipment to remote areas of Afghanistan, where U.S-led forces are searching for Taleban and al-Qaida militants.
