U.S. President Barack Obama is to travel to Denmark later this week to support Chicago's bid to host the 2016 Summer Olympics.
The
White House says the president will arrive in Copenhagen early Friday
local time, just before Chicago's presentation to the voting members of
the International Olympic Committee. First Lady Michelle Obama will
arrive in Copenhagen Wednesday leading the U.S. delegation.
IOC
members vote Friday on which of the four candidate cities -- Chicago,
Madrid, Rio de Janeiro or Tokyo -- will earn the right to host the 2016
Olympics.
The White House says the president and first lady
will make presentations to the IOC during Friday's session. Chicago
faces tough competition from the other cities.
U.S.
talk show host Oprah Winfrey, who tapes her popular television show in
Chicago, will also be in Denmark to lobby for Chicago.
While in
Copenhagen, Mr. and Mrs. Obama will meet with Queen Margrethe. The
president will also meet with Prime Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen.
The White House says Mr. Obama will arrive back in Washington Friday afternoon.
