The Pakistani military says a Taliban commander known for brutality has died in custody from wounds suffered during his recent capture.
Security forces said last Wednesday they had arrested Pakistani Taliban leader Sher Mohammed Qasab.
Authorities say when they arrested Qasab in the Swat Valley, he was wounded and three of his sons were killed in a gunfight.
Officials say Qasab died of his wounds on Sunday. He had a reputation for beheading prisoners. Qasab is an Urdu-language word for "butcher."
His capture and death come as Pakistani authorities have been arresting key Taliban commanders in the Swat Valley, including Muslim Khan, chief spokesman for the Islamist militants.
A missile attack last month in South Waziristan killed Pakistani Taliban leader Baitullah Mehsud.
