'Sesame Street' to Combat Swine Flu

The U.S. federal government has enlisted the popular children's show Sesame Street to get the word out in a health campaign designed to battle a likely resurgence of the swine flu.

Three federal agencies have partnered with the educational show in creating public service announcements to teach children about health and hygiene.

A Sesame Street character named Gordon and the friendly furry red muppet named Elmo will explain in the announcements the importance of healthy habits.

U.S. authorities have warned that the number of cases of the H1N1 virus could increase as the weather gets colder and children return to school after the summer vacation.

The White House announced the partnership Tuesday just hours before U.S. President Barack Obama was scheduled for a briefing with senior officials on preparations to combat the flu.
